Gruen Ocean Chief Diver 'Tropical Caramel'
The history of the Gruen Watch Company is a complex one full of twists and turns. Founded by Dietrich Gruen, a German immigrant in the USA in 1869, it is one of the most important all-American watch companies of the last century.
During the 1950s, however, the company started sourcing movements and parts from Switzerland to be assembled in the US. One of their most important creations is the ‘Ocean Chief’ - an important milestone in the field of vintage dive watches. The watch features a concave, rotating bakelite bezel, similar to that of the Breitling SuperOcean, mounted on a ‘Hugenin Freres’ made lyre lug case and a spectacular black gilt dial that has aged gracefully to a caramel hue.
Truly one of a kind, this is a testimony as to why we love vintage watches and why we spend endless amounts of time searching for The perfect example. Available now.
