Rolex 1018 'Gilt'

€0.00

This Rolex 1018 is one of those unusual, lesser known models by the Geneva Manufacture that seems like a standard Datejust type piece but is so much more. This Chronometer Certified piece is in fact a date-less, oversize time only watch from 1964.

In 1964 (up until circa ‘67) black Rolex dials were notably made using the galvanic gilt technique, which led to a deep glossy finish on the surface of the dial. The intact tritium dots have turned to the most desirable pumpkin hue which makes a lovely contrast with the ebony black dial.

The case is in great condition given the age of watch, the smooth bezel is reminiscent of the 1600 series but the dateless dial makes the watch pop out even more. Though 36mm, it is closer to a milgauss 1019 than a 1600 in terms of wearability.
