Universal Geneve Polerouter 'Tropical'
Polerouters need no introduction today, having established themselves as a defacto piece of art in the watch world. Genta designed, Genevean bred, they are simply the mix of all that is pure in the world of horology. Take for instance this S 20217 4 - the original bumper version featuring a larger and thicker case with the Hugenin Frerès trademarked twisted, helical lugs, a feature that will later be the inspiration to the professional speedmaster.
The watch mounts a 138SS bumper calibre, which we personally love given its unique feel on the wrist. These earlier generation pole routers are much rarer than the later microtor iterations and to us epitomize what a Polerouter should look and feel like. Given the larger case size, the watch sits better on the wrist and pops out even more.
The real dealbreaker of this example is naturally the caramel-aged black dial. It is already uncommon to find these early gilt bumper versions age tropically but finding an example in this caramel colorway is unique. Ranging from deep black to the softest of suedes, this beautiful example is an incredible item to hold and look at and a truly special watch.
